About Us
The Ellis Asian Culture Club has been diligently working since 2004 to raise awareness and funds to support the school for girls that they adopted in the Heart region of Afghanistan. Ellis’s relationship with its sister school, Khwahari, meaning sisterhood, was established when a leader from the organization Women for Afghan Women, Fahima Vorgetts, came to speak at an Ellis assembly. She described the learning conditions for women in Afghanistan, and compared them to the boy’s conditions. She showed images of women studying on dirt floors, in tents, with no furniture or electricity, and very few materials. However, it was clear by the look on the girls’ faces that they were enthusiastic and determined to learn. After seeing these images and hearing Fahima speak, the Asian Culture Club was compelled to take action.

As Ellis students, we have had the privilege of receiving a top of the line education. It is easy to take this for granted. Working to improve the educational experience of girls in an emerging third world country is a challenge that reminds us everyday to be thankful for all of our opportunities. Knowing that we have the ability to make a difference in the life and future of an entire generation is extremely heartening.

Over the past two years we have raised close to $14,000 dollars to send to our sister school. The money was raised through various craft sales and private donations. Help us to achieve our goal by clicking here to make a donation.
