Episode #1: "Days Off"
Hello, my name is Alison. I am going to tell you what I do on week-ends. I sleep in late, especially on Saturdays because I am so tired after school on Friday, and the rest of the week always makes me tired, because my wonderful teachers always give me too much homework.
I also usually go to the movies with some of my good friends, usually with Libby, Molly, or Hannah. They're some of my best friends, although I have a lot more friends. Recently I saw the movie Yours Mine and Ours with Libby. It's about these two families that come together to make a family of twenty! Can you imagine that? I can't, I only have one older brother, but he is probably as annoying as 19 more siblings, but I still love him. Anyway many strange things happen to the family of 20 that makes the movie very funny.
Also on my weekends my family and I ski, up in the mountains. I love skiing! It is very fun, I can go so fast! Of course I also do homework, and I go over to my friend's houses. I also go to a youth group at my church. We play games, sing songs, and have a lesson in religion. That is one of the highlights of my weekends, it's very fun for me.
So that's what I do, my weekends are pretty much the same thing every time, but I still love them and look forward to them greatly and with enthusiasm. Who wouldn't? No school, and you get to sleep in, and you get to spend time with your friends, which is probably my favorite thing. Can't wait to hear from you!
Hey guys! My name is Jane and I love days off from school because I get to relax, which I don't get to do normally. On the weekends or holiday vacations, such as Winter Break, which is coming in two weeks, I like to go to concerts, such as the Rolling Stones, which I saw a while ago. I also like to go to the movies. Two weeks ago, I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I am going to see it again this weekend for one of my best friend's, birthday party. I love those movies, but the books are even better!
Also, during the winter, I like to go skiing with my Mom or my friends, but not both at the same time. That would be embarrassing. I really enjoy going out to eat. My favorite kind of food is you guessed it, Chinese food, but I really like Japanese food too. Shopping is another one of my hobbies, but my parents don't like me to go very often because they say it corrupts my mindI disagree.
The city where I live, Pittsburgh, is not very large, so on a Friday night, there isn't much to do except go to the movies, go shopping, or go out to eat. Every once in a while, there is a dance that I go to with friends on Friday or Saturday nights. Such as last week when a half of my grade, including myself, attended a dance at a school called Saint Edmunds. At the dance, they played all kinds of music. Some of the most popular songs were, My Humps by The Black Eyed Peas, Run It by Chris Brown, Get Low by Little John, which is my friend Margaux's favorite song, and my favorite song, Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones.
A very popular musician right now is Gwen Stefani. A lot of people really like her, she sings songs like Hollaback Girl and many others. Over all, on my days off, when I don't have to do my schoolwork, which I have a lot of, I like to relax and have fun. Bye-bye!
Hey! My name is Montana. I am 13 years old. When the weekend comes, I am really excited because that means that the week is over and I get to relax. During the weekend I like to sleep in late because during the week I don't get to. Also, I like to spend time with my friends. When we are together, we go to the mall or the movies or something like that. We go out to eat and then go shopping. My favorite stores are Hot Topic and Pac Sun. I am sure there are malls in Shanghai like ours. If you do not have a mall, it is a very large shopping center where you can shop.
. If I do have homework, I usually try to do it on Friday night so I have the rest of the weekend to do whatever I want. If I can't do it on Friday then I put it off until Sunday night. At night I like to watch movies, especially horror films. Horror movies are a great invention because then you can be scared and go into your dark room and be scared.
I also like to listen to music when I get bored. My favorite bands are AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. Since I don't have time clean my room during the week because it takes too long, it looks like a bomb hit it by the end of the week so I usually clean it over the weekend.
One weekend a month I go to the Navy/Marine base in a place called North Versailles, PA. I am in a program called Sea Cadets. This is a program where you can be in the Navy even if you are under 18. It is an opportunity for you to see if you want to go into the military or not when you turn 18. I want to be a Navy fighter pilot so this is a great opportunity for me. That is basically it about what I do on the weekend.
Hello, my name is Margaux. I am 13 years old and I am going to tell you what I like to do on my days off from school. I love days off from school! Every time I have a day off I get to sleep in. I don't have to get up at any time unless my 2 younger brothers decide to come and wake me up. I don't like when my brothers wake me up early, but usually they get in trouble.
On my days off recently, I went to the movies with my friend Kathy. We saw the movie Yours, Mine, and Ours. It is about a family with eighteen children; with a father who is in the military and a mother who is a fashion designer, it was very funny. . I only have three siblings; I have one sister and two brothers. My sister is 14 she is a year older than I am, and I have two brothers who are seven and nine. I saw another movie called Stealth. It is about pilots in the U.S. air force that have a very hard mission that they had to accomplish.
I also like to go shopping at the mall with my friends; we always shop at a store called Abercrombie and Fitch. I sometimes bring my mother with me when I go shopping; she always buys me new things. Then, we usually go out to lunch. My favorite foods to eat at the mall are pizza from the restaurant called Villa Pizza and the restaurant called Subway; where you can get sandwiches.
I also like to play sports. I love to swim and play tennis. I play tennis on Saturday and Sunday every weekend and I swim on Sunday mornings. On my days off I love to have fun. Thank you for listening to me! Good-bye.
Hi, my names Katie, I'm 13. Some stuff that I do on my days off are; listen to music, go see movies, and watch TV.
Some of the old bands I like are AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and Led Zepplin. Some of the new bands I like to listen to are Fall out boy, my chemical romance, the black eyed peas, and the all-American rejects. The All-American Rejects are having a concert on December 15th. I really want to go, but the concerts on a school night, so I'm not aloud, but hopefully if I bug my parents enough they might let me go.
Some of the TV shows I watch are Law & Order, CSI, and NEXT. The TV network that has the coolest shows on it is Mtv, Mtv stands for Music Television, you can watch the top 10 count down, punked, NEXT, and other cool shows.
-On the weekends I loooooove to sleep in because I'm usually tired from staying up so late from school. I like to go to the mall and go see movies with my friends Montana, Megan, Jane, and Arriana.
The movie I really want to see is 'Walk the line'. The movie 'Walk the Line' is a biography about Johnny Cash and his music career. Johnny Cash is a country music singer who influenced other country music singers and some rock and roll singers. Sadly he recently passed away. A movie that I recently saw was Harry Potter and The Goblet of fire. Which is the 4th Harry Potter movie out of a series of 7.
|Leigh||On my days off I usually sleep until about 11 in the morning. After I wake up I almost always go on the Internet for one or two hours. Sometimes I go to a bookstore or the mall for fun. If there is a good movie in theaters I go see it with friends, although often nothing I want to see is out! Later in the day I finish my homework if I haven't already completed it. After that I either go back on the computer play video games. My favorite type of video games are role playing games, especially the Final Fantasy series. At night, if I don't have school the next day, I stay up and draw and watch television. One of my favorite shows is 'Attack of the Show' which is about new things in the world of video games and the Internet, I also watch a lot of anime and re-runs of trivia games shows. Once I'm tired I finally go to sleep late at night.|
|Hannah B.||When someone asks you what do you do on your day off, you would most likely answer "Oh my gosh, I did nothing the whole weekend!" but I could never say that. On my days off I play soccer, go work out, go out with friends, talk to people on the phone, and Instant Message. I am currently on three soccer teams outside of school and everyday I have practice, including my days off. Playing soccer to me, is like being in Heaven. Soccer is my life. I love the feeling of dribbling the ball down the field and scoring. I also love the people on the teams. They are my best friends and since we don't all go to the same school we go shopping together. Five days in a week I go to a gym and work out. I have a trainer that helps me. In the spring I broke my leg and so now I have to get back in shape. Right now I am working on toning my muscles and my wind. Every Saturday or Sunday I go out with friends. I usually go out with my two best friends, Libby and Alison. We have so much fun together. We go out to lunch, go shopping, or we just go for a walk. I would not be able to live without a phone. It is my main way of communicating. Alison and I talked on the phone for almost three hours one time. She and I get into these deep conversations on the phone. Libby and I talk on the phone too, but it is mostly light and funny. Without the phone I would have problems getting though life. Instant Messaging is another great way to communicate. Libby and Alison are not on much but my other friends are. We talk about everything, and it is very fast. So this is what I do on my days off.|
Hi, my name is kathy. I am thirteen years old. When I get off from school, i tend to always be doing something. Personally, I'm a big fan of sleeping in late. I am a bit sleep deprived on the week days, so on the weekends i usually get up at around 12:30. I would get up later, but someone always barges into my room waking me up!
Recently, I had two weeks off. I took dance classes for most of those days. I take classes in jazz, tap, ballet, and modern. Usually, I have four hours a day, four times a week. I also went to see six movies with many different people. I saw two movies with my friend kathleen, two with my sister, one with my dad, and one with my friend Hannah. I saw The Family Stone, Rumor Has it, Memoirs of a Geisha, the Producers, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, and King Kong. All of these movies were great and one day i even saw two of them!
In addition to this, I enjoy a game called Dance Dance Revolution. My friend Emily and I are big fans. It is a video game where you dance on a pad that can detect movement. The tv screen shows you were to move your feet and you have to stay on beat. It is tons of fun.
I also enjoy shopping. Recently, my friends, molly and emily, went shopping with me. We ate a lot of food and bot extremly large sunglasses. They looked quite hysterical, but hey! what do we care?
Last of all, I enjoy snowboarding in the mountains. I go about twice a month and it is so much fun! I am pretty good at it, and i just got a new board as a gift! it is black and pink, and this gift will give me drive to improve my skills.
Thanks for listening, Bye!
Hi, my name is Shelby and on my days off I usually sleep. When I'm not sleeping I see many movies and shop. I love seeing movies, and some of my favorites are "Mean Girls," "Gone with the Wind," and "It's a Wonderful Life." My favorite movie I've seen recently is "Match Point." It is a British movie about a guy who's having an affair.
My favorite thing in the world to do is shop. Just sort of hanging out with your friends--it's just something fun to do. I also like to read books. My favorite series of books are the "shopaholic" novels (surprise, surprise)! Right now I'm reading The Devil Wears Prada, which is alright, but I just started.
I watch a lot of TV; my favorite shows are "CSI," "The OC," and "Friends" reruns. I have just described everything I do on my days off.
On days that I do not have school I usually sleep, a lot. I sleep until eleven or so and then I get up and read for a while or just lie in bed and think about the answer to life. Then I go downstairs and see what the rest of my family is doing.
Usually nothing much is planed so I either go to my room and listen to music and call my friends or I go get changed into jeans and a tee-shirt and go to the horse barn. I have been horseback riding since I was in third grade. I jump horses and I also exercise horses whose owners are not able to get to the barn that day. I have riding lessons on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Alot of my friends are at the barn and so I spend whatever time that I'm not riding with them, we order pizza and because I don't normally eat breakfast I always have at least two pieces. Then I go and set jump courses and organize the riding ring.
While I wait for my mom to pick me up I sit in the office and read horse magazines and drink coffee. Once I get picked up I go home and do whatever homework I still have to do and then have dinner. I really like pasta, especially ravioli, and occasionally I make my own dinner whenever I've missed it or my family isn't home.
I either go on the Internet and check my friend's blogs and update mine or I watch TV and read a book. One of my favorites TV shows is American idol but it is only on Tuesday and Wednesday so I can only watch them if I have finished my homework. When all of my homework is done I read a book until I am tired and then go to bed.
"Maria, what are you doing after school today?"
my friends ask.
I was introduced to the sport of field hockey in the beginning of sixth grade. I had the opportunity to either join the soccer or field hockey team. Soccer impressed me as too ordinary; however, field hockey seemed exciting because it is unique. I was not very adept in my first year, and field hockey did not appeal to me. I put down my stick until seventh grade. Then my great passion for field hockey ignited, for my coach helped me to realize the enjoyment of the game.
Now it is winter, an indoor field hockey season. Many people know field hockey as an outdoor sport played on a large field. Indoor field hockey is an altered form of that. The field is significantly smaller, the sticks are lighter and thinner, the ball travels at a much greater speed, and rules have been adjusted to the smallness of the field.
I practice and play field hockey during my free time daily. I am on the travel team of an indoor field hockey league. In this league I play four hours a week. My friend Emily and I also organized an indoor field hockey club at our school. It meets every Tuesday for two hours. Field hockey practices usually begin with warm ups and stretches. Then come drills, which include dribbling, pushing, passing, and shooting. My favorite drill is shooting on goal. I like to flick the ball to one of the top corners of the goal. Also, I love passing. This summer I had an amazing coach who is a former international player. He helped me to perfect my pushes, and I am very proud of them, because they reflect my hard work, and they are very fast, powerful and beneficial to my team when I shoot on goal. After drills, my teammates and I play a continuous game--my favorite activity! When I am not at practice, I still have field hockey in mind. I often scare my cat and annoy my parents when I do a few hundred yard-stick pulls, which are little pushes to myself from one side to the other. Sometimes I just daydream about making the Junior Olympic Team.
I love field hockey because it has taught me valuable lessons about the importance of teamwork, respect, hard work, and athletics. Field hockey has also allowed me to bond with my friends by spending a lot of time with them and cheering for them. Lastly, field hockey lowers stress and brings relaxation, which helps me to survive everyday life.
